We’re pleased to announce that our next game, a revised version of Hydrologic Cycle, is coming to Kickstarter! Follow the prelaunch page here!
Hydrologic Cycle is a fast-paced, 1v1 or 2v2 player, area-control card game where players fight for control of the global water cycle. To win, players must use their knowledge and memorization skills to connect water cycle reservoirs and transport processes and end the game with more of their cards covering the game board.
1v1 or 2v2 Players 10-15 Minutes Ages 10 & Up
Hydrologic Cycle uses simultaneous play to keep the game flowing (like water in the global water cycle!), which means players are drawing, playing, and discarding cards in real time as they attempt to match reservoirs and transport processes to claim areas of the board. Cards can be played on top of one another as play progresses, so who controls a particular location on the board will change rapidly during the game. A player can also play a card on the board more than once, so long as it is played with a directly connecting card. The game ends immediately when every space on the board is covered with a card. The winner is determined by noting the player whose cards cover the top of the most spaces on the board.
For designer Dr. Wendy Robertson, associate professor of earth and atmospheric sciences at Central Michigan University, Hydrologic Cycle is an engaging, fast-paced game that is also grounded in science education. According to Dr. Robertson:
Hydrologic Cycle came to be because while there are a lot of artistic illustrations out there of global water movement, and Jeopardy-style games that focus on the trickier vocabulary, there isn’t really a lot out there that engages players to think about where water is (and isn’t) and how water moves in the global hydrologic cycle….Hydrologic Cycle is fun and engaging for a low-stakes quick gameplay but also has the potential to teach about really complicated and involved processes in a way that everyone from ten year olds to seventy year olds can interact with and relate to.
Hydrologic Cycle will launch on Kickstarter on March 26. Sign up at this link to receive an update when the campaign goes live.
